"Puppy Journal Entries" February
15, 2003 Here's the view inside my tummy. PUPPIES ARE HERE!!! On March 19th at 7:40 a.m. the first puppy arrived. There are five little girls and three little guys. Mom and pups are all healthy. Just a few photos of the new "little" family. March 30th Puppies will be two weeks old this Wednesday. They have all doubled their weights. Last night, they all got their nails clipped. Puppy nails are very sharp and Daphne appreciated our attention to that little detail. Most of the puppies are trying to take their first steps. Eyes and ears should open in this next week. April 6 A lot has happened in the last week. Puppies are all up and walking--well more like wobbling--about. They look like little weeble puppies with their fat little bellies. All their eyes opened and ears are opened. They are barking and growling at each other, and sometimes at us. Some have really well developed lungs and can yelp quiet loudly. We have just introduced the food dish. All the puppies can lap up food quite well on their own, though the preference is still clearly mother's milk. Grandma Em got to pay a visit today. She wants to get in there and help out, but Daphne is able to handle things just fine on her own. April 13 What a change a week makes. Everyone is playing, barking, growling, and eating "real food". The puppies are much more coordinated than they were just a week ago. We had visitors today--my great niece and nephew came to visit and to help with the beginnings of the socialization process. There is nothing like pictures of cute puppies and cute kids, so there are a few on this week's update. April 28 It had been a few weeks since there have been pictures. You will be surprised at the change. Puppies are no longer in the whelping box and have moved to roomier space. Yesterday was our first sunny spring day, so everyone got to outside for the first time to run with the big dogs. May 10 Puppies are progressing well. They're getting bigger by the minute! May 20 2 down, 6 to go. The puppies are slowly finding their ways to their new homes. The six pups we have left paid a visit to the vet yesterday for health certificates and vaccinations. All are healthy and prepared to meet their new families. May 31 All puppies have been in their new homes for almost a week. We've gotten updates on nearly all of them and Daphne and the rest of the gang is proud to say, they're doing well. Make sure to check out Claire's puppy page for updates on her litter. |
